If you enjoy watching boarding school movies because you went to one yourself, you always wished you went to one, or for any other reason, this is the list for you. This list provides a brief summary of 6 awesome boarding school movies that you'll really like, in no particular order.

1. Dead Poet's Society

Probably revered as the best boarding school movie of all time, this 1989 drama film is about a teacher who mentors a group of boarding school students to not only help them be successful in school, but to also live a fulfilling life. This group of students has various obstacles to overcome, and they are all influenced by their teacher played by Robin Williams. Other stars in the movie include Sean Patrick Leonard and Ethan Hawke.

2. Taps

A 1981 drama that became a classic, Taps is about a Bunker Hill Military boarding academy that is about to close. When a group of local boys start harassing the cadets, a weapon is accidentally discharged. One thing leads to another and the cadets make a stand inside the school. This film stars Timothy Hutton, George C. Scott, Sean Penn, and the debut of new actor Tom Cruise.

3. Cruel Intentions

This teen drama from 1999 focuses on the relationship of a step brother and sister and their time at an upscale New York City private school. The siblings make a bet that the brother can't seduce the new girl, and he ends up falling for her. The new girl is played by Reese Witherspoon and the brother and sister team is played by Ryan Philippe and Sarah Michelle Gellar. While there is tragedy at the end, the brother gets the last laugh.

4. Harry Potter

While most people think of magic and adventure when they think about all the Harry Potter movies, but in fact, they are boarding school movies. All 8 of the Harry Potter movies, which were released between the years of 2001 and 2013, are so good that they deserve to be on this list even though it's a collection of movies rather than an individual flick. They are about a special boy named Harry and his boarding school friends as they battle evil in many forms. The cast of these films include Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe, and Alan Rickman.

5. Rushmore

This 1998 film stars Jason Schwartzman as Max Fischer, one of the worst students who greatly loves his school and who is involved in countless activities. Threatened with expulsion, Max Fischer starts falling for a first-grade teacher at the prestigious boarding school, called Rushmore Academy. Max's mentor has an affair with this teacher, and a war begins between max and his mentor.

6. Scent Of A Woman

Released in 1992, this Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell flick is about a young boy who attends an all-boys boarding school on a scholarship. After a student prank goes awry, O'Donnell's character, Charlie Simms, gets a job taking care of a blind colonel. A friendship blossoms and Charlie's life is never the same.
